MATT AND GAIL TAYLOR, the founders of MG Taylor Corporation and knOwhere, Inc., created a practice to research, refine and test their credentials, ideas, methods, and systems by doing real work with a variety of clientele. Between 1980 and 1998, MG Taylor has facilitated hundreds of Design Events, encompassing a wide variety of projects, ranging from excruciating labor disputes to global mergers and enterprise-wide transformation strategies.

A Timeline of knOwhere: Idea to Action

  • 1980 MG Taylor Corporation formed to research and develop processes, tools and environments. MG Taylor Mission Statement: The mission of the Taylor Management Centers is to provide individuals and organizations with new ways of working, and to redesign and re-equip the workplace to operate effectively in the Information Age.
  • 1982 MG Taylor Corporation built its first environment, called the Anticipatory Management Center.
  • 1983 Worked with the FAA and 13 airlines to help them find solutions to long flight delays (several hour delays were common, because of congestion, not weather)
  • 1985 Working for Acacia in Washington D.C., Matt and Gail Taylor created a Navigation Center™ to help the company recreate itself. Their last project with Acacia was the design of the Navigation Center in Orlando, now owned by CNL Group, Inc.

  • 1988 General Motors, National Car Rental, Capital Holding Corporation developed in-house environment.
  • 1991 First strategic military client: MG Taylor transferred its system integration, knowledge management, and facilitation processes to Arnold Engineering and Development Center. These methods were coupled with an MG Taylor designed collaborative environment. Today, AEDC, is licensed and facilitates strategic alliance initiatives with both public and private partners, suppliers and the community.
  • 1994 NASA Langley Strategic Navigation Center was created to support organizational transformation.
  • 1995 Ernst and Young, AT Kearney, CSC Index approach MG Taylor to partner in developing the methodologies for knowledge management and accelerated solutions.
  • 1996 MG Taylor Corporation partners with Ernst and Young and licenses them to do DesignShops® and establish Accelerated Solution Environments.
  • 1996 The first knOwhere opens in Hilton Head, South Carolina
  • 1997 Leaping the Abyss: Putting Group Genius to Work: a book about the MG Taylor processes, tools, and environments.
  • 1997 The October edition of Fast Company Magazine features MG Taylor Corporation, the knOwhere environments, and its founders in an article titled Group Genius.
  • 1998 knOwhere, Inc. formed to replicate and expand MG Taylor Corporation's unique methodologies through a series of knOwhere stores.
  • 1998 second knOwhere opens in Palo Alto, California.
  • 2000, knowhere has succesfully integrated itself into Silicon Valley, helping organizations such as HP, Agilent, EA.com, Kaiser Permanent and multiple others unleash their Group Genius.
